Rep’s Link – Dec 2013

Happy Thanksgiving folks! We are grateful to God for the opportunity to partner with Him in cornucopia-givethankstouching many lives and raising up the next generation of leaders in Teen Challenge. It’s amazing to see the transition from an addict to a non-addict, to a leader – passionate for God and going to work in His kingdom. Thank you Lord for every new birth of a life surrendered to you because of Teen Challenge.

Remember our next Revolutionized Leadership Webinar on Coaching will be on Fri, Dec 20th at 10:30am (eastern).

Level I Adult

This month we will start our 2-month course Knowing and Understanding God’s Will and our text: Experiencing God by Blackaby, Blackaby & King. Your heart will burn with a hunger for God and you will experience Him in a very personal way. Your comprehension of His will and purpose will be clearer and you will know your Heavenly Father as never before.

Level I Adolescents

Our next in the Habitudes series is Building Relationships and our text: Habitudes II – “The Art of Connecting With Others by Dr. Tim Elmore. Dr. Elmore says “everyone of us influence those around us.” Since leadership is influence, our student leaders will look at how they are adding value to others and making a difference in the world.

Monthly Book Orders and Grades

Southeast Rep’s can go to Google Drive and search for ELP Monthly Order Form and Grade Sheet Edited. Look for your center’s name in the tabs at the bottom and fill in your center’s information. No need to save or email the spreadsheet (Google Drive saves it and I can access the info from my Drive). If you place an initial order on the form and update the order later (i.e. add 2 more books) after we have ordered your books, please send me an email andree.aiken@teenchallenge.cc and copy barbara.moore@teenchallenge.cc to let us know. Thank you.

  • Are able to connect with others and build trust
  • Are oriented toward reality
  • Finish well

Your first post will be up on Monday, Dec 16th. As always, looking forward to chat with you on the discussion board.

A Culture Rich in Honor

honor_fullA culture rich in honor considers others better than themselves. Recently I was in Tallahassee coaching the emerging leaders on How to Create a Personal Life Plan. God has placed so much treasures in these men’s lives and such great callings that if we help each one fulfill their purpose they will in return help many others fulfill their purpose. The end result – a rippling effect of sons who are fitted with their sandals ready to go to work in God’s harvest.  At the end of our session we had a time of ministry anointing the feet of each emerging leader and praying for them that they would live their purpose and walk out their destinies. It doesn’t matter where you have been or where the other person have been, we honor those we serve above ourselves. Honor is defined as “to esteem, to admire, to look up to, to defer.”

Humility-is-the-Christian-27s-greatest-honor-3B-tattoo

Jesus addresses a culture of honor in the story of the Pharisee and the tax collector in Luke 18. They both went to the temple to pray; the Pharisee practiced religion thanking God he didn’t have all the sins the tax collector had while the tax collector was beating his breast “God, be merciful to me, the sinner!” The Pharisee probably with his nose turned up was saying “thank God I’m not like him!,” while the tax collector humbly bowed his knees and prayed “Lord, have mercy on me!” As the body of Christ we are not self-focused or internally focused, we consider the higher call and greater good of others.  When we esteem, admire, look up to others as more honorable than ourselves it keeps us humble. “A striking thing about actual honor cultures is people will regard as honorable what they honor, and dishonorable what they despise, irrespective of what moral and political leaders tell them they ought to honor or despise” (James Bowman). We all want to be honored, yet the paradox is, when we are humble and honor others, then we are exalted. In the kingdom of God a culture of honor is permeated through humble souls, devoted to one another in love.

Who can you intentionally honor this week?

What are some things you can do to show this person you prefer them above yourself?

You can develop a healthy, robust community that lives right with God and enjoy its results only if you do the hard work of getting along with each other, treating each other with dignity and honor.~ James 3:18 (TM)

“Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; give preference to one another in honor.” ~ Rom 12:10 (NASB)

ELP Highlight – Dec 2013

Name: Justin BattertonJustin

Age: 30

Hometown: Ruston, Louisiana

TC Center: Shreveport, LA TC ( 5 yrs)

I graduated in October of 2008 from Mt Grace Teen Challenge.

I started using drugs at the age of 12, and it was a long, hard road. After 12 years of addiction and two felonies, I knew something had to change. I tried to do it on my own and was never successful. Later, my family told me about Teen Challenge. I came into the program in 2007 lost and hopeless. After a year in Teen Challenge I now not only have hope, but have new life as well.

After completing Teen Challenge, God put it on my heart to stay on as staff. Because of the grace of God, I am now Dean of Students and Teacher at Shreveport Teen Challenge. I am also one of the youth pastors at my church.

I believe God has called to full time ministry. And for me to stay with Teen Challenge and to also continue to be youth pastor at my home church and be involved in other areas there.

The ELP has helped me in a lot of ways with my Leadership. It has helped me to be a better leader. Not only is it pushing me to be a better leader but also pushes me in my relationship with God. It has helped me to be a better teacher, to be an assistant director to Shreveport Teen Challenge. It has also helped me become a youth pastor by training me in areas of leadership and Ministry.
