Merry Christmas!

It’s the season when we take time to reflect back and assess what we have accomplished throughout the year and laugh over memories created with friends and family. This year I have been reflecting on just how good God has been to me. It’s so refreshing for me to look back and see the hand of God over every situation in my life, especially in the midst of hardship.

While spending time looking back at my own life and looking forward to the new year, it’s hard not to notice the types of songs we sing around Christmas; “Joy to the World”, “Angels We Have Heard On High”, “Away in a Manger”, “Silent Night”, “Hark! the Herald Angels Sing”, I love this time of year! I may not be one to play Christmas music around the clock through the month of December, but I love that these songs point us to the real reason we celebrate this season. 

It’s important to take time and reflect on your year, learn from mistakes and plan for the next year. It’s important to create memories with family and love on each other through gifts and kind words. However, don’t miss the opportunity to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Born to a virgin and lived a perfect life only to die as the one and only atoning sacrifice.

It is truly a season to celebrate what He has done for our eternity and reflect on His active hand in our lives. I challenge you to take a few minutes and re-read the lyrics to two of my favorite Christmas Carols. I hope and pray you have a truly Merry Christmas!

WELCOME! 

This month we welcome Caity O’Shaughnessy as the new ELP Rep for Columbus Women’s Center as well as Samantha White as the new Rep for Jacksonville Women’s Center. Caity and Samantha thank you for answering the call to raise up Gen-Next!

Level I Adult 

We will start this month’s core course with, Knowing and Understanding God and our text: Experiencing God; Knowing and Doing the Will of God

by Henry and Ricard Blackaby and Claude King. This study will help to answer the cry of your heart for intimacy with God. If you are saying, “Show me Your ways, O LORD; Teach me Your paths, For You are the God of my salvation; On You I wait all the day (Psalm 25:4, 5 NKJV),” here is a study that will open your understanding of God’s will for your life and you will experience Him in a deep and profound way. Those who do this in-depth study will never be the same. Your heart will burn with a hunger for God and you will experience Him in a very personal way. Your comprehension of His will and purpose will be clearer and you will know your Heavenly Father as never before.

If you have students who are working on their elective track, please update the “ELP Monthly Order Form and and Tracking Sheet”, accordingly.

Level I Adolescent

Our course for the Adolescent track is Leading Others and our text: Habitudes #3“The Art of Leading Others” by Dr. Tim Elmore. Habitudes are images that form leadership habits and attitudes. This book is part of a series of three. It will enable you to leverage personal power instead of mere positional power. We believe leadership is a 360-degree proposition. The leadership journey begins with self-leadership. We must lead ourselves before we lead anyone else. Next, we learn to lead up-in relationships with those over us. Then, we learn to lead and influence those around us. Finally, we lead those under our care.

This course is designed to help our emerging student leaders learn how to have proper boundaries in their lives. Having clear boundaries is essential to a healthy, balanced lifestyle. A boundary is a personal property line that marks those things for which we are responsible. Emerging leaders will discover firsthand how sound boundaries give them freedom to walk as the loving, giving, fulfilled individual God created them to be.

Welcome

This month we welcome Jason Peltier as the ELP Rep for Pensacola Men’s Home. Jason is a graduate of Teen Challenge San Diego, Riverside and Orange County. He is a TCIMI graduate and was recently employed at Pensacola where he and his wife serve the ministry.

Level I Adult

This month we start a new course Servant Leadership and our text: Lead Like Jesus by Ken Blanchard and Phil Hodges. Blanchard and Hodges focus on four key areas and how they can direct you toward becoming the incredible leader you aim to be. The four areas are:

  • Heart – What is your motivation as a leader, whether as head of a family, church or large corporation?
  • Head – What are your beliefs and viewpoints about leadership?
  • Hands – Do you set clear goals and measure performance, consistently following up with those you lead?
  • Habits – How do you refresh and renew yourself as a leader?

The students will learn how to align their leadership motivation, viewpoint, behaviors and habits with those of Jesus to effectively lead others. Rep’s, please reference the Weekly Meeting Template and use it for your weekly meetings.

Level I Adolescent

Our course for the Adolescent track is Discover your God-given Purpose and our text: Chazown by Craig Groeschel. Pronounced khaw-ZONE from the Hebrew, meaning a dream, revelation, or vision. You were born with your own Chazown. Do you know what it is?

Pursue your Chazown and simultaneously improve five critical aspects of your life – your relationship with God, your relationships with people, your finances, your health and fitness, and your vocational life. Craig asks the question: are you living someone else’s dream for your life or even no dream at all? If so, he invites you on a most unusual odyssey – to find, name, and live out your Chazown!

This month we welcome Sharon Varasse as the ELP Rep for the Emerging Leaders College. Sharon is a TC graduate of Women at the Well and a recent graduate of ELC. Welcome Sharon! Thanks for answering the call of God to raise up the next generation of leaders!

Level I Adult

This month we start our new course Team Building and our text: The 17 Essential Qualities of a Team Player by John Maxwell. Maxwell presents a clear analysis of the personal characteristics necessary for becoming an effective team player. He outlines the success of team players who have been Intentional – making every action count toward a long-term goal. Relational – focused on others. Selfless – willing to take a subordinate role for the sake of the team. Tenacious – hardworking and optimistic in the face of setbacks. Your emerging student leaders will learn a lot about working with a team from this course.

Level I Adolescent

Our course for the Adolescent track is Servant Leadership and our text: Help, I am a Student Leader by Doug Fields. Although this book is set in the context of a youth ministry, our emerging leaders will learn how Jesus led others and figure out how to be more helpful to everyone. They’ll discover the secrets of getting others involved, learn how to listen better and deepen their own faith as a young leader.

Level I Adult

This month we start our new course Discover Your Gifts and our text: Discover Your God-given Gifts by Don and Katie Fortune. You will discover which of the seven motivational gifts listed in Romans 12:6-8 were given to you by our Heavenly Father at your birth. Why do you enjoy doing some things and do other things simply because they have to be done? These gifts are actually the key to understanding the very motivating forces in your life. You will understand the vast difference between the gifts of the Spirit, the gifts of Christ to the church and your personal, innate gifts you have had from birth.

This month we start our new course Armor Bearer and our text: God’s Armor Bearer by Dr. Terry Nance. Support the vision of your leader and God will help you accomplish your vision in due season. The study of this book and workbook will give understanding in just how to accomplish God’s plan as an armor bearer doing God’s will. The writer of the book served as an armor bearer to his pastor some twenty-five years with meekness and joy and he performed with precision and peace.

Our new course starting Mar 15th is Knowing and Understanding God and our text: Experiencing God by Blackaby, Blackaby and King. God is inviting you to experience Him in an intimate love relationship through which He reveals to you His will, His ways, His work. Through the biblical principles in this course, God can teach you how to:

  1. Know when He is speaking to you
  2. Recognize His activity around you
  3. Adjust your life to Him and His ways
  4. Identify what He wants to do through you
  5. Respond to His activity in your life
